Hillhaven Motorsports veteran Bryan Mabrey found Victory Lane Friday night in the NASCAR iRacing Series at Daytona International Speedway! After having taken a several month hiatus from the series, Mabrey returned with a bang, bringing his Hillhaven Motorsports Salutes/iRacingiFlag sponsored Camaro ZL1 to the front! The road to the checkered flag was not easy, however. Team owner Brayden Hill also made his return to the series on Friday night, and with the help of his teammate, led 52 of 80 laps. The HMS duo stuck together throughout the race, leading the bottom lane to dominate the majority of the race. Unfortunately, they would have to overcome adversity later in the race. In the final third of the Daytona night race, green flag pit stops proved challenging for both drivers. Hill overdrove his pit box, causing him to have to back up and lose the main pack draft. Mabrey also made a mistake, spinning the car on the exit of the pits after the gutsy call not to take tires. This left Mabrey nearly a lap down, meanwhile Hill was able to work together with other drivers in the field to return to the front of the pack. On his return to the front, Hill made a mistake and misaligned his bumper with the car he was pushing to the front, causing a wreck out of corner number two. This ended Hill's race, but revived Mabrey's. In a post-race interview, Hill took full responsibility for the incident, saying, "I hate that our race ended this way. I apologize to the #29 car, we had worked together on multiple occasions throughout the night and I wanted to push him to the front. I simply made a mistake." The subsequent restart put Bryan in perfect position to take advantage and return to the front. Despite some cosmetic damage to the body of the race car, the #5 found it's way to the front, beating the 2nd and 3rd place cars by less than a tenth (.1) of a second! This was his second win of the season, and his 5th win with Hillhaven Motorsports over the past 2 years.
